CM Mamata to meet puja committees next week, likely to announce grants

Durga Puja will be celebrated in the second week of October. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will hold a meeting at Netaji Indoor Stadium next Tuesday to prepare for this festival. Top officials of the administration including State Chief Secretary BP Gopalika, Home Secretary Nandini Chakraborty, and State Police DG Rajeev Kumar will be present in this meeting.

Along with the officials of Durga Puja committees, representatives of all religions will also be present in the meeting. Senior officials of Kolkata Police will attend under the leadership of Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal. Apart from this, representatives of service-providing agencies like the Fire Brigade, Kolkata Municipal Corporation, Pollution Control Board, and CESC will also participate in the meeting.

Like every year, the Chief Minister announces government decisions related to government grants and electricity bills to Sarvajanin Puja committees from this meeting. Such announcements can be made this year as well.

Regarding the meeting, Shashvat Basu, a prominent official of Forum for Durgaotsav, the coordinating organization of Kolkata's Puja committees, said that the Chief Minister arranges a lot for us in advance. Therefore, the Puja committees do not need to ask for anything. In the meeting on that day, we, the members of the Puja Committee, will attend the meeting and listen to the instructions of the Chief Minister and work towards decorating Kolkata's Sharadotsav as per his instructions.
